Thursday Picks

Quez @ Outlaws - Lot of drama hopefully avoided here. Like I said in my preview of this match, this will be for the most part Outlaws vs. Outlaws. On one side you see Kevin, King James, Paul, Kyle, BadAssOutlaw, on the other you see very few old faces. In fact only 2 Outlaws really are there, Austin and Jamie. So this will be old-school vs. new-school. Quez have Kevin who like I've said many times, knows how to motivate a team, and you've got the new Outlaws who...Well I mean, they lost last week as stacked as they are. The players just have to focus on their games, and they need to be at the top of their game as well. This is just too close to call, but I would have to give the mental advantage to the Quez. They'll be ready, and while best to worst, the Outlaws are the best team in MLP, their depth is not even close to that of the Quez. That alone makes them a bigger threat than the Outlaws. Obviously depth is a huge key to success in MLP. 4-3 Quez.

PoolPals @ PoolPimps - Both teams are coming off...well, let's just say, ugly losses just to be nice. That being said it's hard to really evaluate the talent on either team. I will basically have to go on gut instinct and say the Pimps win 5-2, but like I said this is really not a valid pick.

SuperbPool @ StraightShots - The 'shots proved last week that they know what they're doing, and they didn't look past UnitedPool at all. Their pretty easy schedule continues with a home game against SuperbPool, a team that...Queballz just decimated last week. I can't SS losing this match, they've still got a capable captain in Judge, they still have some of their good players from last season and some newer players to try and fill their shoes. Advantage SS in this one, 5-2.

Regul8ors @ PoolMasters - Well looky here *in Disney character Pete's voice* Which I do sorta well...Anyways, obviously the biggest question is can the Regs get a lead and hang on to it? If they give PM an opening, they're gonna pay dearly. Reg's pool_warrior is expecting to play game 7, and as far as I know he's only lost 1 game 7 decider, ever. But the regs haven't been in deciders every week they've been in MLP believe me. Last season the Masters beat a Regs team which one could argue was perhaps better than what they have this season. Like I said, argue, not necessarily fact. I've gotta take the Masters in this match. They do have the better team in this case I think, and let me again emphasize the word TEAM. Not necessarily players, but TEAM. Plus the home advantage is huge, in close matches...Though you'd think I was joking looking at the recent 4-3 results and who won those. Again, I'll take the Masters 4-3, if they really come to play.

Wednesday night

Another team goes down 3-0, but could they battle back? Two big-time matches going right down to the wire, and LuckyPool continues to roll, is 5 their lucky number?

LPL vs. HappyPool We all know what happened last week to HP, and we know about LPL blowing the early 2-0 lead. So someone after this match is gonna be 1-1, but who? Joker, dynasty, and romper began the night with 3 big LuckyPool wins, but HappyPool didn't quit. Chuck money, DejaVu, and billd all got wins, Moe apparently screwing up in game 6 badly...Next time if ya don't want it posted Moe don't YM me in the middle of a match. Game 7 would come down to rufferman and HP's dalittleman...Which man would win? Ruffer. LPL narrowly escapes with a win this time, after blowing their second lead of at least 2 games, in as many weeks. Later in the night ruffer played Namath and guaranteed a win over PoolFiction next week, in Bad Times.

We'll get to PFN in a moment but how about their former conference rivals in action. PoolFighters vs. PoolHustlers This is a match I didn't see all of unfortunately, because a certain other match started. Admins quit putting the big matches within an hour! Make 'em 2 apart! =\ Anyways,
Game 1: PH_x0_adnan_0x vs. PF_b_madcab_d - Early on Adnan tries to run it out but gets stuck. Safety lands short. Danny with ball in hand on the next shot...Yahoozled. Adnan would get as far as the 8, and get a bank off the right to the bottom left, missed it by...well, it wasn't all that close. Madcab Danny wouldn't get Y!'ed again, he put the win away and the Fighters lead it 1-0.
Game 2: PH_Po0l_machine vs. PF_xlx_skrew_xlx - Yep that's Si over there for the Hustlers...Si means "yes" in spanish, you could also say "si spot run"..."si Si and Skrew play a safety battle, si a ball hang in the bottom left pocket twice, si skrew get a clean chance to run and do so, si PF go up 2-0."
Game 3: PH_pakipoolking666 vs. PF_eskim0s - It's not Luckydog so eskim0s should win right? He wants to. Runs not 1, not 2, 3, 4, 5, but 6 balls! And gets no leave on the 7th and hands the cue over to the paki. Andthe poolking doesn't disappoint, shows he deserves to be back on the team after a PH admin asked for his removal in MLP, put me in coach! Pakipoolking runs all 8, can I get away with calling him Tupaki? Definately a good mid-matcher. 2-1 PF lead cut in half.
Game 4: PH_Rocky_Ireland vs. PF_xlx_scotter_xlx - Who's afraid of the big bad Irish? Not scotter. They'd put on quite a safety show until late in the game when Rocky got down to 3 balls, 9 on the top rail and he has to bank down to the bottom right. ....Luck of the irish not with him. Not even Eye Of The Tiger could help him after that, Scotter runs out, and it's a commanding 3-1 PF lead. This is when I went to watch another match because..Well it was tight throughout ;) Numero uno pool player and..someone else, obviously a report missing, made it 3-3 and Corey vs. ...*sigh* Theike. Class we will now demonstrate captains playing game 7 all the time good, and captains playing game 7 bad. First the bad...Let's exempt corey because we all know that's Lulu's spot any other week. Corey would win by the way, so there's good and bad in the same match. Now for an example of good...Scroll down.

PoolFiction and MadSkillz They should've charged admission fees for this match it'd be a better spend of your money than Jose Canseco's lie detector test on PPV trust me. Though...I do love a good comedy. Back to topic...
Game 1: MZ_Khrone_Champion_99 vs. PFN_CoolDude3424 - No Mark tonight, that pretty much means the 1-2 Cubby-Mark punch is a no-go right? Yeah, don't worry no added dramatics in this the match gave more hart attacks than a bottle of Vioxx. Khorne would put together an impressive 5-ball run right off, but got safetied behind CoolDude's solids after underpowering his next shot. After the foul it's CoolDude running, with a wide open table, and in game 1 that's just a cakewalk. CoolDude gives PFN the 1-0 advantage early.

Game 2: MZ_x8x_mad_killer_x8x vs. PFN_british_pool_wizard - Safety struggle early in a PFN match, what's new? Killer tries a bank on the 3, from top to bottom middle, missed it though not enough angle. The wizard looking to work a little magic, down to 3 stripes, trying to roll off the 3 into the top middle but it hangs like...Oh it's BBall season he hangs like Amare Stoudamire who didn't win the stupid showoff contest. Shame. Wizard would get another shot though, and got to the 8. And while it looks like he could've went straight in, he didn't wanna risk the foul and tried going top to bottom middle, but he missed it by a bundle. Case of too much angle, and it catches the 3 on the way back. Killer does what everyone dreams of growing up...Winning a game of online pool. Killer's win knots it up at 1-1.

Game 3: MZ_Sniper_aims vs. PFN_jeremy_doyle2002 - Sniper at Jeremy's mercy for most of the match until only intending to break out of a safety, the sniper goes top, bottom, with the cue, and gets a piece of his 2ball, leaving jeremy in a very tough spot. But his advantage would be short-lived, sniper scratched on the next shot. JD would slightly underpower his safety attempts for much of the game, coupled with a glitch here and there, last time jd underpowers, it wasn't a foul this time, but it left a solid hanging, easy pickings for a cuebank bottom to top right for the sniper. Also sets himself up to finish the deal, and you know snipers, they don't miss the easy ones. MadSkillz take the lead 2-1.

Game 4: MZ_ll_petey_ll vs. PFN__nightglow_ - Down 2-1, 3-1 would be a backbreaker for sure. I personally like both calls in the situation, so lemme say right now the calls in this match by both captains were well-calculated. The first 5 to fall were Pete's stripes, giving jammy the obvious advantage in the ensuing safety battle. Big decision time a few shots later for jammy, down to 3 solids. The way he went about it just really wasn't smart enough for my liking. While he took his time, I don't think he saw the table too well. I'll post a link on the right side over there showing you the table after I post this. First shot was OK, but only left him one option, as he took the 4 to the top right. He had to drain the 7ball, but instead of going to the nearby bottom middle, he tried to send it bottom left, but missed. The english wasn't on the mark either, almost forcing a scratch. That goes into the shot selection category I keep talking about. Pete takes the right shot, but gets the wrong result, missing the 14 top right. Jammy finally takes the shot he should've taken when he got to 3, the 5 bottom right, scary moment with the english as he hits off the rail just short of the top left pocket. Jammy survives though, knocks down the 8, and ties it back up at 2-2.

Game 5: MZ_camtasian_aimer vs. PFN_xox_volcom_stone_xox - That aimer over there's Champ Chris, no coaching I promise *ouch*. This whole game is a simple story. Volcom making his balls, Chris playing smart and letting him walk right into his trap. I mean, there's not a lot to say about this match. Chris played the match practically without error. His opponent wasn't happy in the least about the match. And while he blamed Yahoo...Well that just didn't fly with me. Bad luck maybe, but certainly not an abnormal reaction to anything. But, frustration causes certain reactions, all was well shortly after, and Chris' brilliant play gives MadSkillz their 2nd lead of the night, 3-2.

Game 6: MZ_Outlaw31964 vs. PFN_ xxl_concrete_coma_lxx - Not wanting to risk a king hustler loss before game 7, MadSkillz throws in Outlaw to try and get a win. But the style, much like volcom's, just wasn't too well thought out. More of a run and gun style, kinda like mine I guess you could say. Coma just waited for his oppurtunity, and certainly got it. After an Outlaw scratch, coma went to work. As Bill Raftery says: "Onions!" 3-3 tied, great clutch run from the coma but...That was nothing compared to game 7.

Game 7: MZ_king_hustler2004 vs. PFN_revenge_of_mr - ...Wow. 36 minutes of amazing action, in what I'll just go ahead and call one of the most dramatic, and best ever single games played in MLP. Neither player too anxious to run, and given the situation the safety play between king and Mick was...just simply amazing. Safety after safety, counter after counter, it was just spot on. Mick had the clear cut advantage for I dunno I won't count exactly but it was at least a quarter of the game, then hustler fought back extremely well. He never caved in, and after the safeties really started going, he didn't force anything. Both players seemed to have ice water in their veins, extremely clutch, and calculating practically to a T. Then right when hustler seemed out of it, it was do or die on a short-rail cuebank off the bottom rail, to knock the 6 down in the bottom left. It set up what appeared to be a simple run. But rotten fortune for the hustler as he gets left with no shot after doing just about everything he could with the simple combo he left himself. But then, king hustler just checked into the House of Mick-ey Mouse. The king makes an intentional foul shot, making his final solid, and Mick actually leaves himself without a shot. After more dead-right calculating, he just taps his stripe, with the 8 right there, and Mick would get ball in hand. Ensuing shot, he goes to break the 11 away from that 8, and trust me after sitting there for 2 hours plus, anyone who was there did not breathe until everything settled. But after it was all taken care of, Mick is able to finish out, a very very impressive showing from both players. And even as a PoolFiction player, I'm just disappointed someone had to lose it, it's like a 5-OT game where two sides play their hearts out to lose on a full-court buzzer beater. MadSkillz really put everything out against the defending champs, but Mick proved that he still has the same amazing talent everyone remembers him for in MLP. Thus, your example of captain playing deciders being good. PFN the winners 4-3.

EZ8 @ LuckyPool Yes there was another match can you believe it? Wasn't nearly as close however. LuckyPool in Season 5, now has a pair of 5-2 wins in as many weeks. That by the way is their first ever 2-0 start in MLP. 10/4 overall. According to the order of reports EZ8 actually led 2-1, but then it was a 4-0 tear in the final 4 games, and hey, they don't look like the pretenders they have been in previous seasons. But 5 is their lucky number I mean...season 5, a pair of 5-2 wins, the last 2 seasons each they've finished 5-8. Team to watch? Certainly. Thursday results later today (Friday) along with the picture of that table I promised above.
