Post #700: Match of the Week #001

As we get set for another exciting season of Major League Pool, very little is actually known about the leagues and who will do what. That, of course, makes it rather difficult to pinpoint a match that will likely provide a load of entertainment. There are many intriguing matchups this coming week; Poolfiction and Lucky Shots will play Monday night in PLC, and a mere 24 hours later in MLP; Pool Loverz returns technically as a newcomer to take on true newcomers Devine Cuez; United Pool and Cheap Shotz will square off in what's sure to be a very hotly-contest matchup... And 2 leagues with a mediocre background will both look to finish the first 7 days of the new season undefeated, as DreamPool hosts Break and Run.

So where do we look for Week 1? None of the above. Rather a Tuesday night showdown between newcomer Tourney Pool, which is coming off a solid PRO season and looks to jump right into the MLP Championship discussion, and Magic Pool, currently competing for a WPC Championship and trying to rebound from an embarrassing performance in last season's Playoffs, getting ousted in the American League Wildcard matchup in 4 games by Straight Shots.

So how does this matchup look? Little is known really about the 2 teams. You can pretty much expect a majority of the Season 11 team to return for MP. As expected for Tourney Pool, Luis returns to his original YPool home to help Trey and Craig win a Championship instantaneously. In a Carry Format Playoff match, I would take Luis to run a straight line through Magic Pool, no questions asked. But Lulu is merely one man, and the Playoffs are 3 or 4 months away (yeah, it's that long a season if you hadn't noticed.) I still like Tourney Pool, should they show at full strength, to beat Magic Pool. ball_brilliance, Trey, and Luis are a tough enough combination that they don't need an All-Star supporting cast to back them up. 2 of those 3 will need to win, however, and I think that's exactly what will happen, as Tourney Pool clinches in 6, and wins 5-2.

Also, keep your eyes open for the new MLP site, and a huge announcement concerning the upcoming season from Sophie. I can't go into much more detail, but I can say the Sunday tourneys are about to get a little more attention.
