Match Of The Week: #6

Almost to the halfway point in the season and a couple leagues have now quit MLP - Extreme Cues replaced by Elite Pool Legendz, and now 8 Ball Scratch at 0-5 has quit. When the going gets tough, you know the rest.

But for MOTW we turn to two leagues in the American League that are very much in this season - Pool Legends, and Cheap Shotz.

Pool Legends sit at 4-1, the only blemish coming at the hands of the TRUE Pool Legends. Even still, PL holds the 2nd-highest win/loss record in the American Conference, 1 measly game behind 5-0 United Pool. The match likely marks a reunion between xlx_psuhke_xlx (now easy.money) and his former PL team. Trav reportedly went to Cheap Shotz hoping there would be less pressure on him to be the big guy in the lineup. Well, he didn't fully get away from PL, as they'll meet up again perhaps, on Tuesday. As for the rest of the Pool Legends team, everyone by now knows the style they play - a very slow, bordering on obnoxious style, and they do tend to oversafety quite a bit. Generally they'll pass up a decent run to try and set up a series of tap-ins en route to the 8. Because of this, their overall accuracy on shots does suffer. Once you get used to safetying so much, you forget how to line up some shots and it gives CZ just a little bit more leeway on the kind of shots THEY leave for PL's players.

On the other hands, you have that Cheap Shotz team at 3-2, looking to improve its Playoff standing. With the only league with a prayer outside of the top 5 (SS) at 1-4, the AL Playoff teams are just about set. CZ's now competing to just stay ahead of the pack and get as close to #1 as possible, though it's unlikely anybody will overtake UP - They even get a Bye against 8BS this week and will be 6-0. So what does CZ have that Pool Legends doesn't? Not much. You have to like trumpsterized and midwestern_pool_champ of course, and trump does have 2 clinches. On the flip side, Pool Legends has Kalpz (life.steala) and if you pay attention to or care about the MLP Ladder Hall Of Fame, the winningest player by far in MLP history, Luckydog.

Cheap Shotz HAS to get out to an early lead, with guys like Ben, Scott, and Travis. If after 3 games they trail 2-1, you can almost hand PL the win. CZ has to have the luxury of deciding who they want to face Luckydog in game 7 - Trump or midwestern. While doing that, though, they still need an answer for Kalpz & s.aints (Matt.) This puts ALL the pressure on games 1-3, in addition to the pressure that always comes in games 6 and 7.

As for an actual prediction in all this... I think Pool Legends win it, 5-2. I don't think the early players get the job done for CZ, and the match is won in the middle.
