Loaded Teams Headline 3-Match Night in Week One

Often times when an interleague starts up there is one marquee matchup that everyone wants to see. In Major League Pool, Tuesday night's matchup between reigning Champion Break and Run and Money in the Bank might as well be an All-Star Match.

MATCH OF THE WEEK: Money in the Bank @ Break and Run - Tuesday, 7:00

Break and Run will play its first MLP match since the passing of redhot_2oo3 in October of last year. Stu, Jordan, Anil, Chris, Ross, Tan, Kalpz... And that's just assuming Luis isn't going to be around to play the full season. After Stu's runner-up showing in Sunday night's Big League Tour opener - proving to everyone that he's still on form - BNR might be the scariest team in MLP this season.

But on the other side you have the man who beat Stu in the Finals - reel_em_ln (Conor), and Money in the Bank. You can ignore their woeful showing in the previous International Pool Association season. Almost all of the players from that team may well be forced out in favor of players like Conor, overachieving (Sid), and of course the new Captain, Pommy. Nobody was particularly impressive in Sunday night's tournament aside from Conor, but keep in mind it was Super Bowl Sunday. The only event of any importance on Tuesday night is this match.

Don't let yourself think for a moment the players signed up for MIB are all they'll have. There will likely be others before Tuesday night. But I think Break and Run is simply loaded moreso than Money in the Bank, and that's why I'll take them to win 4-3.

Pool Fiction @ Sexy Poolerz - Monday, 6:00

Some of you may have already checked MLP's Pick 'Em Contest and seen that I, Pool Fiction's Head Admin, like Sexy Poolerz in the first match of Season 14. There are a number of factors that play into this. Pool Fiction generally struggles when starting off the season, or when playing after long layoffs. Look at losses in Universal Interleague Competition's tenth season opener to Deadstrokes, and Pro Players Association's ninth season to Xtreme 8 Ballers.

What both teams seem to be struggling with is a little uncertainty. Sexy Poolerz first and foremost needs to get players back on the MLP ladder. Pool Fiction needs to set in stone who's actually going to be available Monday night. So far, neither one has necessarily happened. A Sexy Poolerz team I can only assume will be at full strength has always been a thorn in Pool Fiction's side. I think they'll prove that statement true once again, and sneak away with a 4-3 victory.

Extreme Cues @ Xtreme 8 Ballers; Latino Pool Legends @ True Champs - Tuesday, 7:00

I group these two matches together because I honestly don't expect them to be close at all. Extreme Cues barely even knows who their Captain is, and True Champs just isn't a very strong team. EC has a far better shot in their match because of the two underdogs, they're just better. But you've got a team of AJ, and... Um... Well... They're going against Robbie, Travis, Ben, and I'm sure there are more to come.

True Champs didn't bring anybody to Sunday night's Big League Tour opener yet they still agreed to move the match to Tuesday (had originally been scheduled for Thursday night.) LPL is going to beat them. Bad. Cameron, Ant, MJ, Tino, heck they might not even need those four. LPL sweeps 7-0, Xtreme 8 Ballers wins 5-2.

Ultimate Outlaws @ Straight Shots - Wednesday, 6:00

Straightshots generally does well at the start of the season. There isn't really a shortage of players at any given time during the season, but Playoff eligibility often gets overlooked. Being this is Week 1 and not Week 18, you can pretty much expect a well-prepared team from SS. Pascal leads the charge. After that, you have some guys who are OK, not great, but they rotate them around so everyone feels like they're playing to earn a spot on next week's team and be a regular. Tonz being on the team is a major boost to be sure.

When you look at Ultimate Outlaws, you can't exactly be optimistic when it comes to 7 vs. 7 play. Remember, a lot of these people played in Pool Dragonz and their short stay in MLP was... Not very good. But like SS, they have a top dog in Austin, then some so-so players with nobody really standing out. Steve (lvlr.lvlighty) recently hopped from SS to UO, so that will create a moderately interesting scenario in a matchup that otherwise looks rather bland coming the night after a busy three-match night. I think the Outlaws keep it close, but Straightshots pull away with a 4-3 or 5-2 victory.

That's Week #1. The season begins tonight and does not end until JUNE. The five-month odyssey begins tonight with Sexy Poolerz and Pool Fiction. Major League Pool's 14th - and longest - season should be yet another roller coaster ride. Let the games begin. Stay classy MLP ;)
