Pool Legends Win Battle Of Perfection

Usually, when you force a team to commit 20 fouls, you're going to beat that team. That's exactly what Pool Legends did against Devine Cuez in the finale of Major League Pool's second week of action.

Devine Cuez began the night looking as though it'd be the better team Thursday night, as eng.lishman defeated Pool Legends' t0_ez. In that game, eng.lishman shot a perfect 7-for-7, while t0_ez didn't attempt a single shot. Even though eng.lishman committed three fouls in the opener, t0_ez took too long opening up the table, and eng.lishman turned the tables on him, erasing a near-decisive advantage the Pool Legends leadoff man held. One lone foul committed by t0_ez at the end proved to be the fatal instant in the game, as eng.lishman potted his final two balls, and the eight, to give DC the 1-0 lead.

Game two of this match began with what one would expect, a soft break from darkinc87, representing Pool Legends. He was opposed by ll_goodwooter_ll, trying to make an impression in his return to MLP. Among complaints flowing most of the night about the overall pace of the match, ll_goodwooter_ll tried to change things up a bit, breaking up a massive cluster of balls on the right side and going for a run. When that run attempt died, darkinc87 put together a string of quality shots, on his way to levelling the match at one apiece.

Fouls really became an issue in the third game. Devine Cuez put up xdis.enchantedx against xlx_psukhe_xlx in what looked like, and proved to be, a total mismatch. Jeanna, for DC, tried to run early, but three shots in found herself in a world of trouble. With a clear advantage, xlx_psukhe_xlx went to work forcing foul after foul. He forced four in all from Jeanna, while committing an intentional foul to leave her with no free solids left, only the few that were bunched up amongst his stripes. While Jeanna was committing those fouls, xlx_psukhe_xlx methodically set up his stripes for an eventual run. Jeanna did have a glimmer of hope at the end, but instead elected to try and one-up her foe with a safety similar to one he had just played on her. The attempt was unsuccessful, and directly led to Pool Legends leading 2-1.

Game four was a rarity, featuring only one miss, and one foul. Pool Legends put up Kalpz (life.steala,) while Devine Cuez answered with Kevin (llvllagiic.) That lone miss previously mentioned came from Kalpz, who went for a run after forcing the game's only foul. Left with only a bank attempt to try and continue his run, Kalpz took over four minutes trying to determine the correct angle. His orange 13-ball just missed off the upper rail, however, and Kevin dropped little more than mere tap-ins en route to tying the match at two.

In game five, people began to get testy as the match had dragged on at a pace which favored Pool Legends. Events had reached the point where Devine Cuez Captain uber.geeky told one of his players, s0.g0dly, that he would not be playing due to his inability to shut up. Later in the match, he would be removed from the table and declared he was no longer with Devine Cuez. With fouls already piling up against Devine Cuez, l_spin.360_l committed seven more fouls against dynamite_que. To add the proverbial icing on the cake, dynamite_que shot a perfect game, making all seven of his shot attempts and not committing any fouls, giving his teammate a 3-2 lead they would not relinquish.

With the announcement that s0.g0dly would not be playing, Zach (uber.geeky) turned to Devine Cuez Head Admin, nealejess401. In a closing role, Pool Legend s.aints31 admitted even he didn't want to stick around too much longer, leading to a fairly sloppy, yet fast-paced game six. In the end, s.aints31 attempted twice as many shots as his opponent, and also a match-high ten shots. The eight he made, however, are why he was able to shut the door and bring a long night of pool one step closer to an anti-climactic close. In a battle of Captains, sexxxy_luckydog17 knocked off uber.geeky, while forcing three more fouls along the way, to give Pool Legends a 5-2 win. Tonight's match, which lasted two hours and 11 minutes, saw a lopsided foul count of 20-3, greatly in favor of Pool Legends. In fact, t0_ez was the only Pool Legends player to commit a foul and actually lose. Both xlx_psukhe_xlx and s.aints31 won their games.

Pool Legends Captain sexxxy_luckydog17 said after the match, "in last weeek of PRo...we had playoffs clinched...and i didnt bring a full team..and the team i had wasnt trying too hard...dc beat us like 5-3 or something, and got real cocky ... so i wanted this one pretty bad"

With the win, Pool Legends improves to 2-0 on the young season, and an overall-best 12/2 record. Devine Cuez now has 9 wins and five losses to go with its 1-1 record. Pool Legends will kick off the third week of this season with a much-anticipated showdown with True Pool Legends, while Devine Cuez will take on 8 Ball Scratch.

In other action on Thursday night, Pool Fiction once again shared the scene with the MLP Sports Center Match (and Upset Pick) Of The Week, and again picked up a win. This time Pool Fiction jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Dream Pool battled back to take what it could out of the match, as PFN won 4-3. Pool Fiction starts off 2-0 with a league-leading 9/5 record, and plays another 2-0 (9/5) team in Tourney Pool next Tuesday night at 6:00. Dream Pool falls to 1-1, but does maintain a 7-7 win-loss record over its two matches so far, and hopes to take some momentum from games 5-7 into next week's finale against 0-2 Pool Pals.

Working backwards and zeroing in on Wednesday night, Magic Pool delivered a huge blow to Lucky Shots' season, knocking off Season 11's National League Semi-Finalists 5-2. The win brings Magic Pool to .500 on the season, with a 1-1 record and 7 wins and losses, like Dream Pool. MP hosts 0-2 Break And Run next week, while Lucky Shots will try to hand Extreme Cues its first loss of the early season. Lucky Shots sits at 0-2, with a National League-worst 4/10 record.

Perhaps more importantly on Wednesday night, United Pool watched a 2-0 lead evaporate against True Pool Legends, but managed to win the final two games of the match in an equally-impressive comeback bid, as UP bested TPL, 4-3. United Pool was saved by wins from l_ketan_l and a decisive seventh game victory from united.pooler, picking up its second straight 4-3 win and staying unbeaten this season. For True Pool Legends, it's only the first loss, but TPL sits near the bottom of a four-way tie for third place, holding an overall record of 7/7. Wednesday night's match was also the first for True Pool Legend hornypom, as only a player, and not MLP Admin.

Tuesday night was the key factor in Jesse (jmunoz3rd) replacing Chris (Pommy.) Tourney Pool locked horns with Pool Pals in a match that delivered plenty of drama from all angles, while otherwise-entertaining games were played in the background. MLP Admin Kerry (kerryanne_24) had been asked by various different would-be spectators to tell Pommy to stop with the excessive booting. After a short, and bitter argument between the two, Pommy removed Kerry from the match indefinitely. When another MLP Admin, Ross (kingvaughan) asked for Kerry to be invited back, Pommy refused. Tuesday night's whole incident stemmed from the boot of Tourney Pool player ta.lent. Pommy had decided on that specific night, he was in no mood to bother with ta.lent, and booted him the instant he joined the table. Other boots followed, and that ultimately led to Kerry and Pommy arguing, and the aforementioned boot.

Oh by the way, did I mention there was a match? Tourney Pool fell behind in the match 3-1, before emmitt22_da_man, deep_cerebro, and ta.lent's replacement, superstaaaar teamed up to deny Pool Pals its first win of the new season. Thus, through all the mayhem and such the match provided, Tourney Pool begins the new campaign 2-0, and that National League-leading 9/5 record. Pool Fiction awaits the co-leaders of the National League, while Pool Pals sits at 0-2, and a pair of 4-3 losses leaves PP with a 6/8 record going into a match with Dream Pool next week.

In less-dramatic fashion, Straight Shots disposed very quickly of 8 Ball Scratch in Tuesday night's only other matchup. Straight Shots already had a 4-1 lead, when 8 Ball Scratch ran out of players and forfeited the two remaining games, giving SS a much needed 6-1 victory. Coming into the week looking for its first overall win of the season, Straight Shots now sits at 6/8, with a 1-1 match record. That puts SS in the final spot of a four-way tie at 1-1 in the American League. For 8 Ball Scratch, an 0-2 record, with a 4/10 overall record. That 4/10 is second-worst, ahead of Pool Loverz. Straight Shots will take on Cheap Shotz next week, while 8 Ball Scratch will look to rebound against Devine Cuez.

Pool Loverz, by the way, played Monday night. After a crushing 7-0 loss at the hands of Devine Cuez, the second week wasn't much better. Against Cheap Shotz, Pool Loverz only managed one win, and like 8 Ball Scratch, had to forfeit the final two games of the match. Cheap Shotz gets to 1-1 on the season, again with Straight Shots on the horizon, while Pool Loverz sits at an overall-worst 1/13 record, of course going along with the 0-2 mark in the American League standings. No rest for PZ, as a match with 2-0 United Pool waits around the next corner.

Finally, in one of the more entertaining matchups in the week that was, Extreme Cues watched a 3-0 lead vanish into thin air, as Break And Run battled back to force a decisive seventh game Monday night. In Extreme Cues fourth attempt at closing out the match, spin.technician added another gold star to his score sheet, and boosted his All-Star hopes by beating Break And Run's ace in the hole, kccwc1. Extreme Cues picks up its second 4-3 win in as many weeks, and battles 0-2 Lucky Shots next week. Break And Run suffers its second 4-3 defeat, and will visit Magic Pool next.
