Intriguing Match of the Week?
We all know how to use the MLP page to look at the numbers. PP, BNR, PZ, and 8BS are all at 0-3, and it's safe to say that PP is the best 0-3 league in MLP. On the NL side specifically, 3 teams are at 2-1: MP, DP, and TP. But, is it safe to say which league is the best out of those 3? DP looks to be picking up a few good players lately, TP has some pretty solid players that can pull out wins constantly, and MP is looking to prove themselves this season, although having their only loss from the aforementioned TP, while taking out LS and BNR in the past two weeks. Although i think TP takes the cake out of these 3, let's focus on one of them.
This brings us to an intriguing matchup happening on Thursday, that could set the tone for each league for the rest of the season.
MP(2-1) vs PP(0-3)
Don't let the numbers fool you. MP is 2-1, but if you look at the past 3 weeks:
MP loses vs TP Week 1 2-5
MP wins vs LS Week 2 5-2
MP wins vs BNR Week 3 5-2
The first 3 weeks tells me to predict that MP is going to end up being a .500 league down the road, just coming short of having enough superpower and experience to knock out big named leagues, while having enough to take out the easier leagues.
And PP's last 3 weeks:
PP loses vs EC Week 1 3-4
PP loses vs TP Week 2 3-4
PP loses vs DP Week 3 2-5
PP has had a rough start to their season, but this match may be where they can start their rebound and hop out of last place. If they are still there, PP has players like oldschool l3am, moe, marky, neo, and airtech, that are worth mentioning as good players that have a chance to take PP to playoffs.
As for the match, look for PP to bring the mentioned players, and MP to bring their usual lineup (excluding jordan) which includes danny_efc, my_lyrical, dont_miss, mike_oneill, etc. I predict this one to go to either go to the wire, PP winning it 4-3 in game 7, or PP taking the clinch in game 6, perhaps ending the match at 4-3 anyway.
Playoff Talk:
If PP loses: they will quickly fall into desperation mode and start to lose their chance at a deserving playoff seed, especially in the division that they're in. They are in the same division as MP, so giving MP the win would be mean a double-whammy and rally cap time for PP.
If MP loses: This will set the tone for the rest of their season. They will fall against the greats, but scrape past or steamroll the lower-seeded leagues, making for a average record, and start the wildcard battle with LS. If they win this they will come out with a big ego boost and perhaps enough momentum to A. spark the eye of "insert random skilled player " that wants to switch leagues to make a name for themselves and B. be able to afford losses in the future and clinch the wildcard spot over LS.
The match is Thursday at 7 pm in Backspin.
