Lucky 13
MATCHES OF THE WEEK:
Devine Cuez @ True Pool Legends leads it off. I think DC, much like United Pool and Cheap Shotz, are a product of teams playing each other. In order to get a fair assessment of these teams, you need to take 6 wins away (SS, PZ, 8BS/WS) to account for the fact that they played joke leagues. Same with the NL, taking 2 wins off from matches with PP (and just 1 for LS, since they actually lost to Pool Pals.) So now, you have a team in DC, take 5 wins away before they play Straight Shots next week, 4-3 team vs. a 4-2 team. Now they look even. When you have two even teams, I usually give the advantage to the team with the talent. That, in this case, is True Pool Legends. This is a team that really needs to win the World Series, or any Championship, because of how close they've been in the past. Declan, Pommy, Travis, Charlie... Zach, Lewis, Jeanna, Neale. Or something like that. TPL's better, TPL wins 4-3.
The other bigtime match, and co-Match of the Week, Cheap Shotz @ Pool Legends. Here's a case, in Cheap Shotz, where they don't care about the regular season once they know they're Playoff-bound. They just run a swiss or some suspicious suicides, get eligible, and maybe show up and half-ass it. They still win a lot, which makes me believe if anybody knocks off TPL, it will be Cheap Shotz (like they did week 7.) So which CZ team will show up here? I think the serious team will for the next 2 weeks. They have PL this week, TPL the next. With the prospect of a first round Bye, you can beat CZ will care about this. For Pool Legends, a win and DC win would put them in position to possibly steal #1 from their superior counterparts. The big guys will show up, and can win their games. But the mid-pack guys also need to win for PL. Jason, Kalpz, and Matt can go 14-0 but if nobody else ever wins, the team is the best 0-14 team in MLP history. I like Cheap Shotz on paper in this one, winning 4-3 as well.
Lucky Shots takes on Break And Run. Very interesting matchup here. BNR, glaringly mediocre, but not on the level of the three stooges in the AL. With a Bye coming up in Week 14, this is the last chance for BNR to play spoiler. Lucky Shots CAN still miss the Playoffs, if EPL & MP win out and Lucky Shots loses out. A win guarantees them a spot, as does a Magic Pool loss. Lucky Shots is better, and if Justin is to cement his ownership of the MVP award in the NL, he needs to win a relevant game in this one. The expectations are there, and this is basically the last test. I think he comes through, and Lucky Shots does clinch a Playoff spot, and LS wins 5-2.
Elite Pool Legends... Dan is out as the Captain. Easily their team MVP in MLP & PLC, now they have to try and hang on for dear life and hope Magic Pool falters. Again, a Magic Pool loss also gives EPL a Playoff spot but they can't sit back and wait for someone else to change their diapers. They have to beat either Tourney Pool or Dream Pool, both of which are fighting for the #2 seed amongst themselves. So with issues at the top, the question more or less becomes... How badly does EPL get beat? I don't think they get all of this sorted in time for this week's match. Tourney Pool rolls to a 5-2 win.
That leaves Magic Pool and Dream Pool. MP is an absolute mess, but they're looking at this shakeup in EPL thinking... "We have a chance to pull this off, and if we win we can battle against a Pool Fiction team with nothing to gain by winning." That has to be the mentality here. This is MP's last stand. They need to beat two teams that are vastly superior to them, and they're also a man down with Mike boxed. I think Magic Pool at least helps out Tourney Pool, puts up a desperate fight, but falls short 4-3 to Dream Pool this week.
