Two For The Price Of One! PFN vs BNR and EC vs SP
Welcome to MLP Sports Center for another look at a couple of matches this week. The first is Sexy Poolerz playing Away to Extreme Cues on Monday at 7pm and Pool Fiction vs Break and Run on Thursday at 6pm.
I will talk about Pool Fictions match up with Break and Run first as it is the MATCH OF THE WEEK. BNR had a great win over MIB last week. They have players like Jordy, Stu, Jase and Palp. Dina called a few players wrong in my view, Stu against break but still won and then before that Jordy, who didn't get a shot as Dina called him against break too! This can not happen this week as BNR roll into PFN looking for a big win to prove they have what it takes to win the World Series again.
Pool Fiction stand in there way and with the team they have containing Miz, Brent, Lewis and Pita, PFN look very impressive on paper and are more than a match for this BNR team. I was hoping to grab a word with Kerry but she was unavailable so I caught up with the Co. Captain for PFN, Cubby.
Jason: So the interview this week is part of a double header as I look at the EC vs SP match up on monday and the PFN vs BNR match up on Thursday, PFN vs BNR being my match of the week. I have PFN's Cubby with me and I want to thank you for agreeing to take part this week Sean the first question I have is how do you evaluate your performance as a team and your own performance last week in Week 1 of MLP?
Sean: As far as MLP goes I thought our team put on an amazing performance. It's tough to come back when everything seems to go against you at the worst times like they did in the first two games, and we watched a very good player lose game one on a handful of flukey shots. Kerry and I have been there before against an even tougher Sexy Poolerz team and we knew that when Brent hit that bank in game 4 to tie it we were going to win that match. Me personally, I'm just glad I get to play with a very special group of players every week. I had some pretty good shots, but the one that counted was just ugly. Too much power, really dug us into a hole. But we climbed out of it so I can't complain.
Jason: It was a great performance last week, I didn't watch the matches but I have spoke to people about it. Your next opponents are a beefed up BNR team with the likes of Chris from MP, Jase, Dark and Grinch from PL. The main two I see though you know very well in Jordy and Stu. I am surprised not to see Stu in a PFN shirt this season, did you knwo he was not going to play for you and how do you rate your chances this week?
Sean: Yep we knew Stu was going there. He and tanmay are very close and daytime activity in Pool Fiction is touch and go at best. So it's a better fit for him. Will be pretty awkward seeing him on the other side next week but we'll be ready. BNR is a team that's actually easier to match up with than MIB. We know who they're gonna call because we're the home team, and we know exactly what their guys do well and how to play them. We've got a brilliant Captain and I fully expect she'll have a plan for whoever Break and Run calls, and I'm actually very confident we're gonna win that match based on Kerry alone.
Jason: Kerry is old enough to be able to match them up, I am actually unsure on who will win as I think both teams have quality all throughout there squads. I look at who PFN used for week 1, the likes of yourself, Pita, Miz and Lewis to name three. There seems to be a mixture of the old guard meets the new guard of PFN. Who else do PFN have up there sleeves and how do you think the BNR game will go? Will you shock BNR with a unknown player they won't be expecting to play?
Sean: If we had a surprise and I told you about it, it wouldn't be a surprise now would it? We'll definitely be rotating some folks around based on availability and eligibility. I can assure you we'll have many of our best players ready to go Thursday night and I'm looking forward to a great matchup. I think the matchups are the key against a team like BNR and Kerry doesn't miss on said matchups very often. I really like our chances.
Jason: So 2 or 3 more questions to go. You watch most of the MLP matches, who impressed you in week one and was there a stand out match up or player that you didn't expect to see and why? Also do you think all the leagues in this season are going to be there at the end?
Sean: Aside from our team coming from behind nobody really did anything special this week. You knew LPL was gonna be good, SS was gonna win, X8B had an easy match, I think it's pretty clear who the good teams are and who the not so good teams are. Palp did have a great win for BNR though and really saved his team. As for the leagues staying or quitting, I think a couple of leagues will have a really tough time of it. True Champs only brought 5, Extreme Cues is probably better than anyone wants to give them credit for. Their schedule is absolute hell. X8B-SP-BNR-PFN-MIB and then they get True Champs. Everyone else seems pretty solid and I hope EC sticks with it because they've got a few players and if they hang around they can at least make a run. But I think the top five - PFN BNR MIB LPL X8B in whatever order you wanna put them, are all playoff-bound and then you get one more that'll just be along for the ride.
Jason: I think personally SS could mix it in there along with SP who are always great at Cammed Inter leagues , but I cant help but finish on this question and that is what do you make of the state of Yahoo Pool at the moment because I think its actually starting to improve again, whats your thoughts? Cubby its been awesome interviewing you for your own blog thanks a lot!
Sean: I've always believed that ypool has never really been dying. The truly great players that were around when many of us started out have either moved on or play in a very limited capacity in inters. There are still cam competitions, leagues aren't as prevalent but that's because there isn't really a major reward for playing 20-30 games a week in a league. And on the inter league scene, good, reputable players don't often play for bad teams. I asked Jordan why he chose BNR over Ultimate Outlaws. He said he would rather have a chance at winning because he's never had that chance in MLP. He has always been the big fish in a small pond. Now he's a big fish in a very big pond. And so the good teams will attract some of that talent and unless the other leagues recruit better or make themselves more attractive on the interleague scene, the rich will just get richer and rest will be left behind. But this was going on even when BNR was bad and it only took a few people who felt sorry for them and wanted to change their losing ways to join and make an instant impact. So leagues like UO, True Champs, etc. are really just a couple players away from turning things around. Ypool will be around for a while. at the end of march there will be like... six noteworthy inter leagues and what? 3 or 4 cam competitions going? Busy busy times. There are so many great ideas that haven't been used yet and many that could be improved or brought back. So thanks for letting me climb up on my soapbox and rant a little bit! I just wanna add that I'm glad to have the opportunity to bring Pool Fiction back and prove that reviving a league can be done effectively. We've got some great people both on our inter league teams and in our league in general, and it's a real treat to have that going for us every day. And thanks for taking the time to interview me on my own blog ^__^ Saves me the trouble of formatting it all LOL
So that was Cubby being his opinionated self again and I would like to thank him for taking the time to take part in the interview.
The match itself will come down to key match ups throughout the night. BNR have to call Jordy and Stu with break and with Kerry knowing they will most probably run it out if they pot on the break she will need to think about who to call. Pool Fiction have a few runners of there own though, hell even Cubby on a good day could but I am thinking about the likes of Mina and Lewis to name 2. These 2 are great shooters and when you have players like Pita and Brent backing them up then I could see a very tight match up here between BNR and PFN! I am told Brent have beaten Stu in 8BRCam lately so this could be something Kerry thinks about come game time! I will give the slight Edge to BNR for this one though and They will take it 4-3 but it will be very close!
Extreme Cues face off against Sexy Poolerz on Monday at 7pm and this match could provide the first proper shock of the season in Season 14 of MLP. EC have so very reliable shooters and we might as well start with Sleepyman who I think would get into ANY MLP starting 7, he is that good along with Imaj, who was the only EC winner last week. EC suffered a big loss to with Pro Shots moving to PFN this week, that could be a big blow for the EC outfit who play a Sexy Poolerz team who don't seem to be there usual selves at the moment and even after going 2-0 up against PFN last week with Simon and Pete winning, they didn't seem to want it as much as what PFN did. I think Pete will have to change it around here this week as EC are going to come out strong and I think they will shock SP this week and that will kick SP into gear for a brilliant season after this week. I will edge with EC to shock SP 4-3.
I want to wish every Team good luck this week and lets have a great week MLP!
